What ON HYPE is

A weekly market on what the internet will talk about the most.

Every week ON HYPE lists up to 20 topics: a stock, a game, a person, a meme token. You put USDG on the topics you think will be talked about the most that week.

At the end of the week all the money is split between the topics by how much hype each one actually got. Inside a topic, it is split between the people who picked it, and earlier picks count for more.

  • Hype is counted from posts on X, news articles and, for token topics, on-chain buys.
  • A topic does not have to win: any topic with hype keeps its slice of the pot.
  • Stakes are open all week. The earlier you stake, the more your stake weighs.
  • You never need $ONHYPE to play. The protocol fee buys $ONHYPE back and burns it.
  • Anyone can recount the result from the published data and dispute it.

ON HYPE runs on Robinhood Chain. The site is https://onhype.co and the account on X is @onhype_co.

How a week works

Each round is one calendar week in UTC, from staking to payout.

  1. 1Pre-open

Stakes open on the Saturday before the week, at 00:00 UTC. Until Monday every stake gets full weight.

  2. 2Measured week

From Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59:59 UTC hype is counted day by day and a live leaderboard shows it. Stakes are still accepted, but their weight falls through the week.

  3. 3Result

After Sunday the scorer computes each topic's final share of hype. The shares go on chain together with a bond and a link to every piece of data they came from.

  4. 4Dispute window

For 48 hours after the result is published, anyone can recount it and dispute it.

  5. 5Finalization

When the window closes without a dispute, anyone can finalize the round. The fee is taken and every topic's pool is fixed.

  6. 6Claims

Claim your payout whenever you like. Unclaimed payouts never expire.

Weeks overlap: the next round opens on Saturday while the current one is still running.

If no result is published within 7 days after the week ends, anyone can void the round and everyone gets their stake back.

Round 1 opens on launch day, the moment it is created, with full weight until Monday. Its week still runs Monday to Sunday.

Staking

You stake USDG on a topic, and the earlier you stake, the more it counts.

A stake is USDG you put on one topic of the current round. You can stake on several topics and add to a stake as often as you like.

Each stake gets a weight at the moment you make it. Your share of a topic's pool depends on your weighted stake: the amount times its weight.

When you stake (UTC)Weight
Before Monday 00:00100%
Monday 00:00100%
Tuesday 00:0087.2%
Wednesday 00:0074.3%
Thursday 00:0061.4%
Friday 00:0048.6%
Saturday 00:0035.7%
Sunday 00:0022.9%
Sunday 23:59:59, the last second10%

Between those points the weight falls smoothly, second by second, from 100% on Monday to 10% at the end of Sunday. After that, stakes are closed.

LimitValue
Smallest stake5 USDG
Most one person can stake on one topic2 500 USDG
Most that can be staked on one topic10 000 USDG

These are launch limits. They keep any single topic small enough that faking hype does not pay. Every round carries its own limits, fixed when the round is created.

Payouts

The pot is split by hype between topics, then by weighted stake inside each topic.

ON HYPE is parimutuel: there is no house and no odds. All stakes go into one pot, and the pot is shared out among the players.

  1. 1The pot

Everything staked in the round, plus the jackpot carried over from earlier rounds.

  2. 2The fee

4% of the new money is taken as the protocol fee. The jackpot was already charged once, so it is never charged again.

  3. 3Topic pools

What is left is split between the topics by their final share of hype. A topic with 30% of the hype gets 30% of it.

  4. 4Creator fee

1% of each topic's pool goes to the topic's creator.

  5. 5Your payout

The rest of the pool is split between the topic's stakers by weighted stake.

  • Virtual seed: every topic counts an extra 20 USDG of weighted stake that belongs to nobody. Its slice goes to the jackpot. A topic nobody staked on sends its whole pool there the same way.
  • Cap: a payout is at most 20 times the stake. Anything above the cap goes to the jackpot.
  • Jackpot: everything sent there is added to the pot of the next round that finalizes.
  • Rounding is always down. The leftover cents stay in the contract and, a year after the round, go to the burn.

Worked example: 10 000 USDG is staked in the week and the jackpot is empty. GTA VI ends the week with 30% of the hype.

How hype is counted

Daily counts from X, the news and the chain, combined by a fixed, open formula.

SourceWhat is counted each dayTopics
XOriginal posts from verified accounts that match the topic's X queryAll
GDELTNews articles worldwide that match the topic's news termsAll
Crypto RSSHow many of 20 whitelisted crypto outlets mention the topicCrypto and Token
ChainUnique qualified buyers of the tokenToken

For Crypto and Token topics, news is GDELT and the crypto outlets half and half. For Mainstream topics, news is GDELT alone.

CategoryXNewsChain
Mainstream75%25%-
Crypto75%25%-
Token55%25%20%
  1. 1Add up the week

Each source's daily counts are summed over the week.

  2. 2Smooth

The formula takes the square root of each total, so the biggest names cannot take the whole pot.

  3. 3Share per source

Each topic's smoothed total is divided by the sum over the topics that source measures. RSS and the chain can only reorder their own group, never lift it above the rest.

  4. 4Mix

The source shares are combined with the category weights above.

  5. 5Round

Final shares are rounded to hundredths of a percent and always add up to exactly 100%.

A topic's hype can grow at most 3 times from one week to the next. This guards against a manufactured week.

  • Not counted on X: reposts, replies, quotes and posts from accounts that are not verified.
  • Not counted on chain: buys under 20 USDG in a transaction, and wallets with no transaction older than 7 days.
  • Not counted in news: outlets outside the whitelist, and only one mention per outlet counts.
  • A day missing for one topic is dropped for every topic, so a collection failure never decides a share.
  • A day GDELT itself barely covered (under 50 000 articles processed) is dropped for all topics.
  • A source with fewer than 4 usable days in the week sits out, and the weights of the other sources are scaled up to fill its place.

The scorer is open source and deterministic. Its code hash is fixed in every round, and anyone can rerun it on the published data with its `verify` command.

Where topics come from

Ten topics a week are found by the system, and up to ten more are won by people.

A round has up to 20 topics: 10 system topics and up to 10 topics won in the weekly auction.

  • Catalogue: every past round's topics and a starter list, checked again each week.
  • X trends: names that trend on X in the US or worldwide on at least 2 days of the week.
  • On-chain tokens: launchpad tokens paired with USDG with the most qualified buyers.

Each candidate needs at least 100 original posts from verified accounts in the last 7 days. Candidates are ranked by momentum: how fast their posts grow against the weeks before.

  • At most 4 topics per category, while other categories can still fill the ten.
  • No candidate that shares half or more of its keywords with a better one or with an auction topic.
  • No deaths, disasters, wars or terror attacks, no sexual content, nothing about minors, no private persons.
  • The team may veto a candidate until Friday 12:00 UTC. The next one on the reserve list moves up.

The ranked list with its reserves is public on the candidates page all week.

Round 1 has the 10 system topics only. The first auction is for round 2.

Every topic has a passport: its title, an optional short ticker, a category, the X query, the news terms and, for a token, its address. The scorer counts exactly what the passport says.

The passport file is stored on IPFS and its hash is recorded on chain. Nobody, the team included, can change what a topic measures after people have staked on it.

Creating a topic

Bid $ONHYPE for one of the ten weekly slots and earn the topic's creator fee.

  1. 1Write the passport

The wizard walks you through the title, the category, the X query with a live preview, the news terms and, for a Token topic, the token's address.

  2. 2Bid

Bid at least 100 000 $ONHYPE for a slot in the next round. Your bid is held in the contract and shown publicly.

  3. 3Raise

You can raise your bid until Friday 12:00 UTC before the round's week. The live table shows the cut-off for the 10th slot.

  4. 4Close

The 10 highest valid bids win. On a tie, the earlier bid wins. Winning bids are burned; every other bid is returned in full.

  • The X query can be up to 400 characters and must contain at least one real keyword, cashtag or hashtag.
  • The ticker, if you set one, is up to 12 characters.
  • A Token topic needs the token's address.

Every bid is checked automatically: at least 100 original posts from verified accounts in 7 days, less than half of its keywords shared with another topic or a higher bid, and the topic rules. A bid that fails is rejected with a public reason and refunded in full.

If you win, you are the topic's creator for that round and earn 1% of its pool.

Bids open when $ONHYPE graduates from its launch curve, since until then the token cannot be moved.

Fees

Every fee, how big it is and where it goes.

FeeSizeGoes to
Protocol fee4% of the new money in the potBuyback and burn of $ONHYPE, less the referral shares
Creator fee1% of each topic's poolThe topic's creator: the auction winner, or for system topics the team's treasury, which funds operations
Referrer share25% of the protocol fee on the stakes of people you invitedThe referrer
Invitee discount10% of the protocol fee on your own stakesBack to the invited player
  • The fee is taken once, when the round finalizes. The jackpot is never charged twice.
  • A voided round charges no fee at all: everyone gets their exact stake back.
  • Fees are capped by the contracts: the protocol fee at 5%, the creator fee at 2%.
  • A stake of 100 USDG from an invited player: fee 4 USDG, of which 1 goes to the referrer, 0.40 back to the player and 2.60 to the burn.

The token, $ONHYPE

$ONHYPE is bought back and burned with the protocol's fees, and you never need it to play.

  • Fixed supply: 1 000 000 000 tokens, 18 decimals.
  • Launched on the Standard Reserve launchpad on Robinhood Chain, priced in SPCX, the SpaceX stock token.
  • No creator tax.
  • Not needed to stake, claim or invite. $ONHYPE is never part of the pot.

$ONHYPE starts on a launch curve: the price rises as people buy. While it is on the curve, the token cannot be moved between wallets.

When the curve sells out (about $13.6k worth of SPCX bought), the token graduates. The launchpad opens a Uniswap v4 pool against SPCX whose liquidity nobody can withdraw, and transfers unlock.

  • Before graduation: rounds run on USDG as usual, and the fees wait in USDG in the burn contract.
  • At graduation: the buyback switches on, and bids for topic slots and featuring open.
  1. 1Fees arrive

At each finalization the protocol fee, less the referral shares, goes to the burn contract in USDG.

  2. 2Anyone triggers

Any wallet can call the buyback. The contract, not the caller, decides how much to buy.

  3. 3It buys

USDG is swapped to SPCX and SPCX to $ONHYPE in one transaction, at most once an hour, each buy capped in size.

  4. 4It burns

Every $ONHYPE the contract holds is sent to 0x000000000000000000000000000000000000dEaD, an address nobody controls.

Each buy must get at least 97% of what the 30-minute median price promises, so a price pushed up in one block makes the buy fail instead of overpaying.

  • The protocol fee, less the referral shares.
  • Winning auction bids for topic slots.
  • Featuring: burn tokens to pin a topic on the front page for the week. The top 3 by amount burned are shown. It changes visibility only, never hype.
  • Half of every lost bond in a dispute.
  • Rounding dust left in the contract a year after a round finalizes.

The burned total is the balance of the dead address, which anyone can check. Explorers still show a total supply of 1B, because the token has no burn function and burned tokens sit at that address forever.

Later: dispute bonds in $ONHYPE, burned when lost, and a token-weighted vote on trending candidates.

Referrals

Invite friends and earn a quarter of their fees for life, while they pay less.

  1. 1Get a code

After your first stake, claim a code: 3 to 16 letters or digits, lowercase, free and yours forever. First come, first served.

  2. 2Share the link

Your invite link is onhype.co/i/ followed by your code.

  3. 3A friend stakes

If a friend's very first stake comes through your link, you become their referrer. It never changes after that.

  4. 4Both earn

You get 25% of the protocol fee on every stake they make, for life. They get 10% of that fee back, so they pay 3.6% instead of 4%.

  • Earnings are claimable once a round finalizes. Referral claims can never be paused.
  • A voided round charges no fee, so nothing is owed in it.
  • Both shares come out of the protocol fee only. Other players' payouts are not touched.
  • One level only: you earn from people you invited, not from the people they invite.

Results and disputes

Every result is backed by a bond and can be challenged by anyone.

The publisher puts a 500 USDG bond on chain with each result. The result links to a package on IPFS with every raw answer the scorer collected and a hash of it all.

  • Anyone can dispute within the 48-hour window by posting the same 500 USDG bond, their own set of shares and their evidence.
  • A dispute is valid when a recount from the published data differs by 0.5 percentage points or more on any topic, or when the data does not match its hash.
  • Only one dispute can be open on a round at a time.

The resolver, a 2-of-3 Safe, picks either the publisher's shares or the disputer's shares, or voids the round. It cannot invent a third result, and its ruling finalizes the round in the same transaction.

  • Disputer wins: the publisher's bond goes half to the disputer, half to the burn.
  • Publisher wins: the disputer's bond goes half to the publisher, half to the burn.
  • The window can be extended once, and only made longer.
  • If a dispute stays unresolved for more than 7 days, anyone can void the round.

In a voided round everyone gets back exactly what they staked. No fee is charged, bonds are returned and the jackpot waits for the next round.

Safety

Open contracts, an open scorer and limits on what anyone can do.

  • The contracts run on Robinhood Chain mainnet (chain id 4663) and have no proxies: their code cannot be swapped.
  • Their sources are published on Sourcify, so anyone can match them to the deployed code.
  • The admin is a 2-of-3 Safe. Handing the admin role to someone else takes a 24-hour delay.
  • Separate keys act as curator, publisher, keeper and pauser, each limited to its own job.
  • Stake limits and fee caps are set per round and enforced by the contracts.

The pauser can stop new stakes, bids, results and disputes in an emergency. Claims, refunds, creator fees and referral claims can never be paused.

The curator cannot burn a bid or pick auction winners out of order: the contract checks the winners against every bid of the week.

  1. 1Get the scorer

Clone the open repository and run the scorer's `code-hash` command. It should match the round's code hash.

  2. 2Get the data

Download the round's package from IPFS by the CID shown on the round page.

  3. 3Recount

Run `verify` on the package. It checks every file against its hash and recomputes the shares.

  4. 4Read the verdict

It either says the published result stands or prints each ground for a dispute.

FAQ

Short answers to common questions.

  • Do I need the token to play? No. You stake and get paid in USDG. $ONHYPE is only for topic bids and featuring.
  • Can I lose everything? Only if your topic ends the week with a hype share of zero. Any topic with hype keeps its slice of the pot.
  • What if X is down? A day a source misses is dropped for every topic. A source with fewer than 4 usable days sits out the week and the others carry its weight. If no result is published within 7 days of the week's end, anyone can void the round and you get your stake back.
  • Can a topic be changed during the week? No. Its passport is fixed on chain before the round, and a topic can only be removed before Monday if nobody has staked on it.
  • What happens to a topic nobody staked on? Its pool goes to the jackpot, which is added to the next round's pot.
  • Is there a deadline to claim? No. Payouts never expire.
  • Can the team freeze my money? No. Pausing stops new stakes and bids, but claims and refunds always work.
  • Why is my payout less than the multiplier I saw? The live multiplier assumes hype stays where it is now. The final shares and later stakes change it.
  • Which network and coin? Robinhood Chain, and USDG for every stake and payout.
